House of Bones – Ossuary in Sedlec Can you imagine a church where walls, windows, roof and even shields and emblems are made of bones? Or decorated with bones? And bones are human. Human bones of over 40 000 people were used here.
In place named Kutná Hora Sedlec in Czeck Republic there is an Ossuary decorated with huge amount of human bones. Look at these photos how does that look.
Many people when first see something like this think it is connected with Satanism or some other similar religion but that is not the case. Human bones used in this church of bones, also called Kostnica, are used as decoration by an idea of some monks few centuries ago.
Because cemetery was not very large it could not receive all those bodies so monks started to remove old bones from the cemetery to make place for the newly deceased. Very soon there were huge amount of old but well preserved bones which were then used by monks as decoration for the church.
