How to setup graphic package for local use in Opera and other browsers

Opera and browser other then Internet Explorer cannot by themselves use graphic packages locally from your hard drive. So you must trick those browser to think that skin is part of the webpage and is not located on your hard drive.

So how to do that?

Follow these instructions step by step and you should be able to use graphic package from your hard drive.

  1. Download software that creates virtual web server on your computer. Here I will use iWeb from Ashley Brown as it the simplest. But You can use any other if you like, for example Xampp.
  2. After it is downloaded unpack it, but not in the default folder offered by ZIP, but to a folder c:\webserver\
  3. Create shortcut from file iws.exe on your desktop as the graphic package will not work unless you start the web server before logging into Astro Empires.
  4. After starting the program there should be icon in the system tray that look like this.

  5. Click on it and a window will open.
  6. In that window in the field Public folder write c:\webserver\
  7. In the field Default file write index.html
  8. In the Port field write 80 and press OK.

  9. Now download the graphic package you want to use and unpack it into the c:\webserver\ folder to look like this

  10. Log into the Astro Empires and into Graphic package filed write http://localhost:80/skin/ for example http://localhost:80/Lcars/

This should work with any other browser like Safari, AOL ...
