How to setup Firefox to allow linking to local files for Astro Empires

1. Download the graphics pack (skin) and galaxies (Alpha - Beta - Ceti) for your server and unzip hem on your hard drive. After you are finished it should look like this on your hard drive

Create specific subfolder for the galaxies because it depends on the server you are playing.

2. Find the user profile folder

First go to your start menu,
Start menu > Run > type in %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Or go to:

C:\Documents and Settings\login-username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

login-username is the user which is logged in your computer at the moment, it could be administrator or any other user

there you will find a folder which has the syntax ********.default , open that folder. Stay in that folder.

3. Now is needed creation of an exception list as a .js file

Go to Tools > Folder Options > View and uncheck the box to Hide extensions for known file types.

Click Apply and OK to apply the changes.

Create a text file via right click menu and choose File > New > Text Document

Open the new text file, New Text Document.txt , and insert the following text code:

user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "localfilelinks");
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites","alpha.astroempires.com beta.astroempires.com ceti.astroempires.com");
user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");

Save the file and close it. Rename the New Text Document.txt to user.js. Click Yes to the confirmation prompt to apply the changes. If correctly placed, the user.js you created should be in the same directory as a preexisting file prefs.js

4. Restart Browser

Firefox will auto-load the newly created file on startup. At this point is recommended to undo second step 3

Go to Tools > Folder Options > View and check the box to Hide extensions for known file types .

Click Apply and OK to apply the changes.
